Drew McIntyre lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes on the latest episode of SmackDown. His reign lasted for only 56 days, and it is unlikely that he will win the title again anytime soon.
McIntyre’s WWE career has been complicated. He joined the company at a young age, but his first run failed to live up to the hype. The 40-year-old rejoined in 2017 and went on to win several championships. He was the World Champion during the pandemic era, and he has proved time and again that he is an asset.
Unfortunately, it looks like WWE has given up on him. His booking has been poor, and it seems like Triple H does not see him as a top star anymore.
The Scottish Psychopath must leave and sign with AEW to revive his career. Here are three reasons why.
#3. Drew McIntyre was a transitional champion
Drew McIntyre was called the Chosen One when he first joined WWE. He was destined to become the face of the company and win countless titles. But now he is being treated like a transitional champion.
The 40-year-old’s recent title reign lasted for 56 days, and his 2024 World Heavyweight Championship reign was instantly ended at WrestleMania by then MITB winner, Damian Priest. It looks like World Wrestling Entertainment has completely given up on him, given that they are not letting him have a decent title run.
A talent like the Scottish Psychopath deserves better treatment. Tony Khan will certainly book him better. The AEW World Title will look great on his shoulder, and he could be a megastar in the rival promotion.
#2. Not sure if he will feature at WrestleMania
For a few weeks, it looked like Drew McIntyre was going to walk into WrestleMania as WWE Champion and defend his title. However, his life has now turned upside down. Cody Rhodes suddenly dethroned him, and now he has no direction.
It is unlikely that the Scottish Psychopath will have a match at WrestleMania. This is quite tragic because the 40-year-old carried the company on his back during rough times.
McIntyre should probably request his release and join AEW. Tony Khan will treat him better and book him in title matches in major promotions. He could have amazing bouts with names such as Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, “Hangman” Adam Page, Swerve Strickland, Jon Moxley, and more.
#1. No proper storylines since rivarly with CM Punk
Drew McIntyre had a deeply personal rivalry with CM Punk in 2024. However, after it ended, he became directionless. He has been booked poorly, and the storylines he was involved in failed to deliver.
The Scottish Psychopath needs a strong redemption storyline to revive his career. It is unlikely that this will happen in WWE, hence he should join AEW. Tony Khan will give him a little creative freedom, and he will be able to do his own thing.
McIntyre is just 40 years old, and he has a lot to offer. Hopefully, he will rise again soon.
