AEW possibly retiring major championship

An important championship title might be retired by AEW later this year, according to the latest update. The company filed an interesting trademark application that suggests the end of the title.

AEW could be retiring the major Continental Championship. The title was introduced in 2023, when the winner of the first-ever Continental Classic tournament was awarded the title. The first wrestler to win the title was Eddie Kingston. The title was later held for a long time by Kazuchika Okada.

Okada lost the title to Jon Moxley after he failed to win the 2025 Continental Classic, as Moxley defeated him in the tournament final. While Moxley currently holds the Continental Championship, the title could be retired later this year. All Elite Wrestling recently filed a trademark for the term ‘Continental Cup.’

The trademarked name is speculated to be the name of the trophy for the winner of this year’s Continental Classic tournament. This eliminates the title belt as the reward for the win, which could mean that the Continental title will be retired.

Tony Khan on a legend’s son wrestling in AEW

The wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer, Sting’s son, Steven Borden has wrestled in a few dark matches in AEW, and many fans expect him to sign with the company. Speaking with TMZ Sports, Tony Khan said he is very excited about Steven Borden:

“I’m getting very excited about Steven, and Steven Borden, you know, he played football in Kentucky, he’s a great prospect. I first saw him as a football player working at the Jaguars as a tight end coming out of Kentucky. And my first thought was, ‘Wow, he looks awesome,’ and of course, with his family connection in pro wrestling, given that he’s Sting’s son, a lot of the genetics are there. And not only is Steven a great football player, he’s becoming a fantastic wrestler.”

Only time will tell if Steven Borden will officially be All Elite soon.
