The “next Casemiro” has already agreed to sign for Man Utd this summer

Manchester United have found consistency under the wing of interim manager Michael Carrick, and while it’s something to whisper quietly, it’s beginning to look like the Red Devils will succeed in qualifying for the Champions League.

It’s something of a fluid system, and it has allowed a number of stars to hit a new stride. Above all others, Bruno Fernandes has been in inspired form of late, chasing down the Premier League‘s all-time assist record and leading his team back into the big time.

The experienced midfielder nearly left last summer, and INEOS must thank their lucky stars that the Portuguese Magnifico wanted to remain at the club despite pressure to take a significant contract on a significant fee to the Saudi Pro League.

Fernandes will be staying put, but the same can’t be said for Casemiro, who is set to leave this summer despite an impressive revival over the past few years.

The latest on Casemiro’s Man Utd future

Pundit Jamie Carragher’s infamous quote about Manchester United’s £70m midfielder has been turned on its head. Casemiro has been an integral part of Old Trafford’s revival over the past few months, and he’s picked up some silverware over the years too.

Even so, Casemiro turned 34 last month, and though his heroics against Aston Villa last weekend helped his side return to winning ways in the Premier League and consolidate their position in third place, it would be a big risk to tie him down on a hefty wage once again.

The veteran has played 154 times for the Red Devils since joining from Real Madrid, scoring 24 goals and providing 14 assists. His crunching defending and confidence on the ball have seen him pop up with some big moments during his English career.

United’s midfield has gone stale over a number of years, and changing things in the centre of the park is crucial. It’s inevitable that INEOS are going to push for big-money additions this summer, but the return of Kobbie Mainoo has eased the severity somewhat.

And moreover, Man United might have already signed their next Casemiro – and he’s arriving this summer.

Man Utd are about to welcome the ‘next Casemiro’

In late 2025, it was revealed that Manchester United had reached a pre-contract agreement to sign Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza FC in Brazil for a shrewd fee worth about £750k. That said, he will not officially arrive at Old Trafford until the summer of 2026 once he has turned 18.

It must be stated that Casemiro has made real gains this season, more secure and convincing as the anchor of his side’s midfield, but the time is right for him to move on.

United will need to sign a fully developed midfielder to replace him in the short-term, but Orozco has the potential to become a mainstay in the future, slotting right into first-team training this summer. Who knows, maybe he will even earn a few opportunities during pre-season.

A defensive midfielder with a modern flavour to his skillset, Orozco is seemingly tailor-made for Premier League football. Youth scout Antonio Mango said he “operates somewhat of a defensive-minded midfielder but far more than that, he can play.”

Though it would be expected for him to move straight into the development squad, Orozco could emulate someone like Mainoo in being fast-tracked to the first team.

Of course, talent isn’t enough. This is one of the greatest clubs in the world, and it might just be heading back into the ascendancy.

But Orozco is the complete package, and while he’s only made two senior appearances for Fortazela, it’s telling that United’s data team needed such a shallow pool to make their move.

Given that Orozco will be 18 years old by the time the new Premier League campaign comes around, he might just have the arsenal to make an immediate impact. Much will depend on his physicality and presence, but he won 5.2 duels per game at the CONMEBOL U17 Championship in 2025 and has the natural base to become a first-class holding midfielder.

Indeed, he’s already been described as “the next Casemiro” and “a midfield destroyer” by one analyst and scout, only furthering the claim that Orozco may well replace the Brazilian in the future.
