The Rock is set to star in the upcoming live-action version of Disney’s Moana. Fans recently got their first glimpse of the former WWE Champion as Maui, reprising his role after voicing the character in the animated version released in 2016.
Dwayne Johnson can be seen wearing a wig and covered in tattoos, similar to those of Maui in the animated movie. Johnson’s character is that of a demigod who accompanies the protagonist, Moana, on an adventure beyond her homeland. Fans, however, seemed divided in their opinion of The Rock’s looks in the Disney movie. In particular, there were mixed opinions about the wig he was wearing in the recently release trailer for the live action movie.

The movie is set to be released on July 10, 2026, in the United States. The Rock has also been credited as a producer on Moana’s live-action release.
WWE subtly teased the return of The Rock recently
On the latest edition of WWE RAW, fans got to witness the Stamford-based promotion subtly hinting at the return of The Final Boss. In a backstage segment involving LA Knight and The Usos, where the twins walked off, a close-up shot revealed the former WWE Champion’s face on the side of a production truck behind Knight.
The last time fans saw The Great One on programming was at Elimination Chamber 2025, where he helped John Cena turn heel by attacking Cody Rhodes. He has since been away from any WWE events, but the subtle tease could hint at his return, especially with The Bloodline seemingly heading towards a reunion on RAW.
It remains to be seen whether The Final Boss indeed returns to the Stamford-based promotion ahead of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
