Netflix has officially announced new additions in the upcoming Bridgerton season 5, which is currently under pre-production.
Tega Alexander, known for his role in The Sandman, joins the cast as Christopher Anderson. Carnival Row star Jacqueline Boatswain has been cast as Helen Stirling, the spirited mother of Michaela Stirling. Gemma Knight Jones (Mobland) will portray Lady Elizabeth Ashworth.
In March 2026, Netflix confirmed that filming for Bridgerton season 5 is officially underway in the UK. Along with a first-look teaser, the streaming giant announced that the new story will follow the romance between Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza.

Based on Julia Quinn’s popular novels, Bridgerton season 5 shifts the spotlight to Francesca as the next sibling to find love. The official logline reads:
“The fifth season of Bridgerton spotlights introverted middle daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd). Two years after losing her beloved husband John, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza) returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.”
Netflix has released character descriptions for the newest members of the Ton in Bridgerton season 5. Tega Alexander who plays Christopher Anderson, is described as a charming Regency-era Casanova who rivals the Bridgerton bachelors. However, beneath his confident facade, he struggles with self-doubt that could shape his future in society.
Jacqueline Boatswain appears as Helen Stirling, Michaela’s mother, whose lively personality and firm guidance help shape her daughter. She supports and challenges Michaela through London’s social season with both warmth and discipline.
Gemma Knight Jones portrays Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, a close and longtime friend of Michaela. While she appears playful and charming, Elizabeth is a practical realist who understands the hidden social rules of the era, acting as a wise mentor for her friend.
Bridgerton season 5 picks up after Francesca and Michaela have spent time grieving the loss of John. Having both shared a deep love for him, the story explores how they navigate their lives and their evolving bond after moving through the initial weight of their shared tragedy. Lead actress Hannah Dodd explained:
“They grieve very differently. I don’t think grieving is something that you get over. John’s going to be with Fran, and the impact of John will be with Fran forever.”
The fourth season of the series was released on Netflix in two parts. Part 1 dropped on January 29, 2026, followed by the conclusion in Part 2 on February 26, 2026. Season 5 is currently in production, with filming underway in the UK. A release is expected around 2027, though no official date has been confirmed yet.
