Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, April 29. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 pm IST.
The last couple of matches have been a mixed bag for the Hardik Pandya-led MI. They claimed a massive 99-run win over Gujarat Titans (GT) but suffered a morale-shattering 103-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the subsequent fixture. After seven matches, they find themselves languishing in the ninth spot of the table with just two wins.
SRH, on the other hand, have a four-match winning streak to their name. Their five-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) last week also marked the return of skipper Pat Cummins. They are currently fourth in the standings with five wins from eight matches.
That said, Mumbai lead the overall head-to-head record 15-10 after 25 matches. Hyderabad have struggled at Wankhede Stadium, winning just two out of nine games against the hosts at the venue.
Ahead of the high-octane clash, we look at three interesting matchups worth looking forward to.
#3 Suryakumar Yadav (MI) vs Pat Cummins (SRH)
Suryakumar Yadav was a key architect in MI qualifying for the playoffs last year. The dynamic batter became the first non-opener to score 700 runs in a single season, finishing with 717 runs.
However, the experienced campaigner has failed to replicate the same success this time. He has just one half-century to his name in IPL 2026 and has scored 157 runs from seven outings with a strike rate of 142.72.
Skipper Pat Cummins could be Hyderabad’s trump card against Suryakumar. The Australian pacer has claimed the star batter’s wicket thrice in seven IPL innings while conceding 49 runs off 44 balls.
#2 Hardik Pandya (MI) vs Eshan Malinga (SRH)
Hardik Pandya‘s batting form has concerned several MI fans. The all-rounder has mustered just 97 runs across six innings at a strike rate of 140.57. The onus will be on him to make an impact in the middle and death overs.
However, he will face a tough challenge from in-form Eshan Malinga. The Sri Lankan pacer is the joint-highest wicket-taker of IPL 2026, picking up 14 scalps from eight innings with an economy rate of 9.44.
The two have faced off just once in the league’s history. Malinga managed to dismiss Hardik in the clash while giving away two runs off three balls.
#1 Jasprit Bumrah (MI) vs Abhishek Sharma (SRH)
Jasprit Bumrah’s new-ball spell against SRH’s dangerous opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head could dictate the course of the powerplay. The speedster has a fantastic record against Abhishek.
The swashbuckling batter has a poor strike rate of 73.91 while facing Bumrah. The MI pace spearhead has dismissed Abhishek twice in five innings while giving away just 17 runs off 23 balls.
It will be a key matchup for the Hardik Pandya-led side, given the southpaw’s stunning form. Abhishek is SRH’s highest run-scorer in IPL 2026, with 380 runs across eight innings at a strike rate of 212.29.
