Emmanuel Petit has urged Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen this summer. He believes that the Nigerian star can break the No 9 curse at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to GOAL, Petit said that Osimhen is the ideal striker to lead the attack for Chelsea. He claimed that there is a curse at Stamford Bridge that is preventing strikers from doing well since Didier Drogba left and said:
Thanks for the submission!
“Victor Osimhen is doing well with Galatasaray, but when he left Napoli, I was hoping that he was going to come to the Premier League, I have no idea why he chose Galatasaray.”
“Since Drogba, I think there’s been a curse around the number nine at Chelsea. I think it’s different with Osimhen because this guy has a really big personality and character, he could be the man to break that curse.”
Petit added that Osimhen can do well at the highest level and hopes that the Galatasaray star moves to the Premier League soon as he is built for the league and said:
“The way he plays on the pitch is a pain for defenders. This guy is very aggressive. He has something to prove. After he left France for Napoli, he did great in Italy. But then he was fighting with the president of Napoli, and then he went to Galatasaray.”
“I think Osimhen has many seasons to play at the highest level. So I think that could be something very, very good for the Premier League. I think he has the character, the personality, and the background to play in the Premier League.”
Osimhen was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but the Nigerian failed to agree a deal and moved to Galatasaray.
Chelsea came close signing Victor Osimhen, said John Obi Mikel
John Obi Mikel spoke about Victor Osimhen moving to Chelsea last summer, saying that the deal was close in 2024. He believed that they could restart negotiations quickly if there was interest from both sides and said on his The Obi One Podcast:
“Make no mistake, if Victor Osimhen comes to Chelsea he will want to break records, he will want to put himself top, top [up] there. His idol is [Didier] Drogba, he will want to go after his record, he will want to score goals, win us trophies, get us back to the top. That would be his mission.”
“The player has so many options, good luck to him, good luck to Chelsea, if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen. But the good thing about it is we know exactly where we stopped [during negotiations last summer], there’s not much in it. We can pick it back up, get the player straight in the door. Get him in, because we know where we’ve stopped.”
The Blues ended up signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, and the striker has failed to impress. Joao Pedro was also signed and the Brazilian has managed to become the club’s main striker.
