Unfortunate Update: AEW Icon Bryan Danielson

An unfortunate update about Bryan Danielson was shared by AEW President and CEO Tony Khan just days before the Double or Nothing 2026 event.

The American Dragon has been credited as one of the most popular and accomplished wrestlers during his tenure in WWE. In 2021, he joined AEW and was a full-time wrestler until 2024. In 2025, Danielson returned to television and joined the Dynamite commentary team, working alongside Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.

During the media call ahead of AEW Double or Nothing 2026, Tony Khan shared his thoughts on Bryan Danielson’s role and revealed some heartbreaking news about him. The AEW Head honcho appreciated his efforts as a commentator but said that he and his fellow commentator are very much beat up, given their respective in-ring careers, which makes long flights difficult for them. At the same time, both stars live on different coasts, so Khan sets the commentary desk for shows accordingly, which is the main reason fans can’t see them together more often.

“I think Bryan does an excellent job. We have a great commentary team and … they step up for each other. And in the case of Bryan Danielson and Taz, they both had … very hard-hitting wrestling careers and injuries that beat them up a lot. And I think having these great commentators, I like when they work together on pay-per-view shows or on Dynamite, it’s always great It is interesting because Bryan lives on the West Coast and Taz lives on the East Coast and the long flights really beat them up. So, on some of the more East Coast tours, Taz, it’s a lot easier for him to make the shows. And on the West Coast tours, it’s a lot easier for Bryan to make the shows.”-[22:00-22:46]

Tony Khan reveals his role in making Bryan Danielson’s job easy in AEW

During the same media call, Tony Khan added that he tries to make Bryan Danielson and Taz’s jobs easier by rotating the Dynamite commentator desk every now and then. Simultaneously, he hoped for more future opportunities to see them together more often than usual.

So, I try to make the travel as easy on the two of them as possible. So, uh that involves sometimes them rotating a little bit. And I also think that hopefully there’s more opportunities to see them together at times.”- [22:46-23:02]

As Bryan Danielson continues to fulfill his duties as a commentator, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him in AEW.
