A reigning champion recently discussed his return to WWE in comparison to CM Punk’s return.
Cody Rhodes made a mark on the pro wrestling business with his work in AEW, before eventually returning to the Stamford-based promotion. At WrestleMania 38, he was revealed to be the surprise opponent for Seth Rollins.
Thanks for the submission!
CM Punk made his return to the company in 2023, at the end of Survivor Series: WarGames, which resulted in a massive pop from fans. Speaking in an interview on ESPN‘s YouTube, Rhodes explained what he thought of comparisons between the two comebacks.
“I think it’s up there as a really great WrestleMania moment and I think it’s a wonderful match… see the thing is it might get any distinction simply because it is a very significant moment… You can talk about whose bigger return, if Punk’s return, Cody’s return. I always look at the return and say, ‘Well, what generated the most after?’ And I don’t mean just in dollars and cents. What changed the culture of one place?”

Cody Rhodes admitted to not knowing which WWE return was better
According to The American Nightmare, the two comebacks were not quite comparable to him in terms of which was better.
However, Rhodes believes that something like his return had not ben replicated since. He also noted how he was the champion now, something that had seemed impossible for many people.
“And I don’t know the answer, which is better. But I do know that that as far as a moment goes, there hasn’t been a return like that in WWE, again, so obvious yet so unlikely. Really to come back, I think many people thought that ship had sailed, and now we’re sitting here and we have the WWE Title. So, very great moment.”
Rhodes recently went up against Gunther at Clash in Italy. He was able to pick up the win, despite The Ring General’s considerable effort and a controversial finish.
