Patrick Roy and Peter Laviolette have emerged as surprising contenders for the vacant head coach role at the Toronto Maple Leafs. The development comes following the sacking of Craig Berube, under whom the Maple Leafs failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
On X, NHL Insider Darren Dreger shared a tweet in which he mentioned that Roy and Laviolette are a part of this week’s stage of the interview process. The tweet by Dreger quickly went viral, with fans displaying mixed reactions.
One user on X said they would throw up if the Toronto Maple Leafs decide to hire Patrick Roy or Peter Laviolette.
Let us take a look at more reactions on X:
“They should of hirred Tort’s when they had the chance. Now even if the make it to the final’s their gonna loose to him because he is gonna win 3 in a row. At least,” a user wrote

“Patrick Roy and Laviolette aren’t guys that are going to help this @MapleLeafs team make a run in next years playoffs. I think the dark horse is the guy currently coaching in the Stanley Cup Finals. #Torts His contract expires, he will be available to the highest bidder coming off a Stanley Cup win! You give him a short window he most likely pushes the right buttons with the Leafs team. IMHO,” a fan wrote
“The only coach worthy of coaching Toronto is Michel Therrien,” one fan wrote
“Oh boy! What a couple of choices. Ragin’ Roy and Loser Laviolette!,” a fan wrote
Peter Laviolette is a highly experienced hockey coach who has coached teams like the New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, and Nashville Predators, to name a few. He is also famous for guiding the Edmonton Oilers to a Stanley Cup victory in the 2005-06 season.
