NFL fans rip Shedeur Sanders’ “elite vision” as Browns QB gets intercepted at minicamp

Shedeur Sanders’ case for becoming the Cleveland Browns’ QB1 is getting weaker and weaker, at least in fans’ eyes.

During a scrimmage in Thursday’s mandatory minicamp, the second-year quarterback threw a pass that was deflected by defensive tackle Mike Hall. The ball then fell to the ground before being retrieved by the defense:

Mockery ensued in the aftermath:

@dan_labbe This is one of the most embarrassing clips I’ve ever seen from a quarterback in practice and I’m not joking

@dan_labbe Elite vision here by Shedeur

If this all Sexy Dexy has to do vs the Browns. We might win by 40

@dan_labbe Just give us the number one overall pick I’ve see enough.

Sanders is competing with Deshaun Watson for the QB1 job. When asked about whether he would attend the multiple-time Pro Bowler’s summer break workout in South Florida or host his own with teammates on Wednesday, he said:

“I think that was just a question to try to start something, honestly. I think we’re a team. If one of us chooses to do something, we’re all going to do it together as a team. It’s not no individual thing. So that’s the thing, like the quarterback room, we’re all connected. We’re all cool. … We all communicate with each other.”

He continued:

“(Hosting separate workouts) creates separation with, ‘OK, now what was he going to show up for this guy?’ Nah, we’re all team. We’re all going to come as one. We’re all going to get together as one team and get things done.”

Browns HC Todd Monken gets candid on Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson as minicamp ends

The Browns concluded their mandatory minicamp on Thursday, and it ended with neither Shedeur Sanders nor Deshaun Watson being named the QB1. During his media availability, coach Todd Monken said of Sanders’ improvement:

“He’s being more decisive. It’s easy to say we’re not in pads, (but) it just feels like he’s making quicker decisions. The ball’s coming out of his hands, which he’s going to have to do. Not that he doesn’t have playmaking ability, but his ability to process quicker and get the ball out of his hands and eliminate lost yardage plays is going to be huge for us.”

About Watson’s continuing return to form, he continued:

“I think he’s excited to play again at a high level. He puts a lot of pressure on himself. When he’s not right or he makes a mistake, he’s great at owning it. But it’s okay, we’re human. We’re going to make mistakes. You’re not going to play flawless. Just go to the next play.”

The Browns’ preseason begins at the Chicago Bears on August 15. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
