The New York Giants are taking a low-risk chance by bringing back Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham signed a one-year contract worth $1.3 million earlier this month. The deal, which qualifies for the veteran salary benefit and contains no guaranteed money, shows the uncertainty surrounding the 33-year-old after a season away from the NFL.

Despite this, not everyone expects Beckham to be merely a depth piece. Empire Sports Media founder Alex Wilson believes the veteran receiver will earn a spot on the Giants’ 53-man roster and also build a productive connection with quarterback Jaxson Dart.

“I’m telling you, Dart is going to enter the 2026 season with REAL chemistry with Odell,” Wilson posted on X on Saturday. “OBJ is making this team, and he’s going to make a relatively decent impact, and that’s so much more than his contract suggests!”

The early signs are encouraging for Dart and Beckham. Over the past several days, the second-year quarterback and the veteran receiver have reportedly developed a strong on-field connection during OTAS and mandatory minicamp, linking up on deep passes and timing routes.
Odell Beckham knows what it takes to thrive in New York. After being selected 12th overall in the 2014 NFL draft, he became an instant star, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and earning three consecutive Pro Bowl selections to begin his career.
Those years are way behind him now. Beckham is entering his age-34 season, and a roster spot is not guaranteed. However, if his chemistry with Jaxson Dart continues to grow through training camp and the preseason, the veteran could remain with the Giants while providing a dependable target for the former first-round quarterback.
What does Odell Beckham Jr. have left to offer the Giants in 2026?
Many New York Giants fans likely welcomed the return of Odell Beckham. with a sense of nostalgia when the team brought him back earlier this month. However, the veteran receiver’s role on the roster is still not certain.
The Giants have several other options at wide receiver, including Darius Slayton, Calvin Austin and Parnell Mooney, all of whom have been more active than Beckham over the past two seasons.
Beckham did not play during the 2025 season and has now missed two full seasons since 2020. At 33, he is no longer expected to be the high-volume receiver who consistently topped 100 receptions during the peak of his career.
But that’s fine, because the Giants don’t need Beckham to be the superstar he once was. They only need him to fill a supporting role.
With injuries affecting the receiving corps, the Giants are looking for Beckham to provide veteran depth, polished route running, and dependable production whenever Malik Nabers or other key receivers are unavailable. If he can consistently deliver in those areas, he will help his case to make the 53-man roster.
His work throughout minicamp suggested he is heading in the right direction.
