Trevoh Chalobah has revealed he’s still trying to get a refund after paying for a vacation before receiving a late call-up to England for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He explained that he was in the process of arranging his vacation schedule before Thomas Tuchel’s text came in.
Chalobah went on to reveal that he was initially disappointed when he got the news that he wasn’t included in England’s World Cup squad. He also disclosed that he was stunned but ready when he was called up to replace Tino Livramento, saying (via Evening Standard):
Thanks for the submission!
“I wouldn’t say [I was] ready, but I was on holiday in New York already, just planning my holiday and not thinking about the World Cup. I just got the text on the Monday, I was surprised, and I was ready to go. When we got the news at the end of the season, whether we were selected or not, ‘You’re close.”
He continued:
“I was disappointed that I didn’t make it, but he did say ‘stay ready’. So I managed to have a few sessions here and there, but really it was about enjoying my holiday. I flew up to New York and was meant to go to Los Angeles after that, but obviously had to cut it short when I got the message on Monday. I am still trying to get my money back.”
On the eve of the game between England and Croatia, which ended 4-2 in favor of the Three Lions, Livramento had to be withdrawn due to a calf injury. Chalobah was then given the nod to replace him in the squad as one of the options in defense.
However, Chalobah didn’t make it in time to be part of the squad that defeated Croatia. He will be looking to impress in training for a chance to play in the upcoming encounter against Ghana.
How has England performed as one of the dark horses in the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

The Three Lions registered a convincing 4-2 victory against Luka Modric’s Croatia in their opening game in Group L. Two goals from Harry Kane and one goal each from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford were enough to ensure victory for England.
However, their consistency will be tested in their upcoming clash against Ghana, a nation that narrowly secured all three points in their opener with Panama. The Ghanaians are well known for their hard, fast, and defensive approach in an encounter. Thus, England will have to be resilient and intelligent if they intend to defeat Ghana in the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament.
As the Group L toppers, the Three Lions are predicted to secure a top-spot finish and book their place in the knockout round. Meanwhile, recent performances have shown that they could go all the way in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and their only hindrance could be their backline, which is yet to gain stability.
