“Guys like him should be relegated to the shed”

Former Indian captain Kris Srikkanth questioned the selection of batting all-rounder Suryansh Shedge in the T20I squad after the side’s shocking series whitewash at the hands of Ireland. Suryansh replaced the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy as a like-for-like option for the seven combined T20Is against Ireland and England.

The 23-year-old impressed in spurts in IPL 2026 for the Punjab Kings (PBKS), scoring 158 runs at an average of 39.50 and a strike rate of 175.55 in seven matches. However, Suryansh did not bowl a single over for them in the 2026 IPL season.

The youngster made his Team India debut in the second T20I against Ireland but struggled with bat and ball.

Talking about Suryansh Shedge’s selection on his YouTube channel, Cheeky Cheeka, Srikkanth said (17:26):

“Guys like Shedge should be relegated to the shed. Playing him as a batting allrounder at 8 without him bowling much is of no use. He should not play at all. I am not sure how he came in as the replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy. He may have some deadly performances in domestic cricket but in the IPL, he didn’t produce anything deadly.”

Suryansh conceded 25 runs off his two overs without picking up a wicket and fell for a five-ball one with the bat in India’s one-run loss to Ireland in the second T20I.

“Two spinners are enough with Axar and Varun Chakaravarthy” – Kris Srikkanth on India’s bowling attack for the upcoming England T20Is

Kris Srikkanth believes Team India should play only two spinners, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy, in the upcoming five-match T20I series in England, starting July 1. The former opener wanted India to do away with the possible inclusion of Washington Sundar, while also urging left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh to up his game.

“Arshdeep Singh also doesn’t look that great. If he gets wickets, he’s lucky to get them. Harshit Rana as a bowling all-rounder and Prince Yadav, who has great persistence, should be in the 11. Washington Sundar should not be in the 11 too, one spin-bowling all-rounder in Axar is enough. Two spinners are enough with Axar and Varun Chakaravarthy,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).

Varun missed the Ireland series due to injury but is available for selection in the upcoming England T20Is. Meanwhile, Sundar played the opening T20I against Ireland, conceding 19 runs off his solitary over and scoring only a 12-ball nine.
