3 prominent obstacle course athletes from India

Obstacle course races are one of the most demanding sports. Unlike a traditional race, participants have to perform various tasks and work out apart from running. The challenges can include sandbag carries, muddy crawls, and rope climbs.

These races test the strength, agility, precision, and mental toughness, making them popular events among hardcore fitness enthusiasts. The popularity of obstacle course races has grown in India as well.

A few prominent athletes have emerged in the country who have proved their mettle with their brilliant performances in challenging races. Here, we take a look at three such Indian athletes.

#3 Sanjay Negi

Sanjay Negi is a proven performer in obstacle course races in India. He has consistently performed well at both the national and international levels and is regarded as one of the leading athletes in the circuit. Negi emerged as the winner of The Spartan Race Thailand 2026 in Elite Super Division and Elite Sprint divisions.

He is the only Indian athlete to qualify thrice for the Spartan Race World Championship. He has finished as the winner in high-profile events like 2016-2017 Devil’s Circuit and Wild Warrior Race, and Alpha League Race.

Major Karan Sohi is an active army officer who is also one of the most popular hybrid fitness athletes in India. He has played a key role in promoting obstacle course races in the country.

Sohi won the Chandigarh regionals of The Yodha Race in 2025. He qualified for the nationals but chose not to take part in the nationals because of his army duty. Impressively, he traveled to the venue directly from his 4,000-meter posting in Arunachal Pradesh and did not have any time for acclimatization.

Sikandar Chindhu Tadakhe is arguably one of the most popular names in the Indian obstacle course racing circuit. He is a former soldier who has won The Yodha Race twice. He won the first and second seasons of the event.
