NFL analyst Nikki Gist blamed POTUS Donald Trump for Team USA’s FIFA World Cup Round of 16 loss to Belgium on Monday.
On social media, she shared a tweet criticizing the president’s involvement in the sport. Gist was referring to the infamous superstition that injuries and losses happen whenever Trump speaks about a certain team or player.
Thanks for the submission!
“I’m just gonna say it because someone has to. Whenever Trump gets involved in a sport it all goes downhill from there,” Gist said.

Before the USA vs. Belgium game, Folarin Balogun was initially suspended for this showdown. This was because of the red card he had received during the United States’ Round of 32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. He received the suspension for his tackle on defender Tarik Muharemovic.
However, Donald Trump later claimed that he discussed the suspension directly with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. This led to the reversal of the decision and his availability for the Round of 16 game.
However, despite being his team’s top scorer, Balogun had no impact against Belgium. The United States was completely outclassed by its opponents, who ended up securing a spot in the quarterfinals following a 4-1 victory.
