BREAKING: WWE Discussed Historic Change Ahead of SummerSlam


WWE is weeks away from The Biggest Party of the Summer in Minnesota, and the promotion reportedly discussed a historic change to one of its premium live events ahead of SummerSlam.

In 2024, the company decided to make SummerSlam a two-night spectacle similar to WrestleMania. Under the old regime, The Showcase of the Immortals was split into two nights in 2020, and the company continued the tradition when the audience returned next year for the event in Tampa, Florida.

According to Ringside News, the promotion discussed the idea of making the Royal Rumble a two-night event in the future. The move isn’t finalized, but the idea was discussed as the company is looking at opportunities to expand its biggest premium live events.

The idea sounds fun on paper, but with SummerSlam’s slow ticket sales, it’ll be interesting to see what the company does in the coming weeks. As of writing, five matches have been confirmed to take place at SummerSlam in Minnesota.

What’s next for WWE heading towards SummerSlam?

SummerSlam is on August 1st and 2nd in Minnesota, and the company has one final premium live event before The Biggest Party of the Summer. Saturday Night’s Main Event takes place a week from now in New York at Madison Square Garden on 18th July.

As of writing, three matches have been announced for the show. Fatal Influence vs. Paige and Brie Bella for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, Danhausen vs. The Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh, and CM Punk and Cody Rhodes vs. Sami Zayn and Gunther.

Meanwhile, the company has already announced a few matches for SummerSlam weeks before the event in Minnesota. Superstars from WWE’s main roster will be heavily featured on the card, whether it’s a grudge match or a championship match.

Official card for SummerSlam 2026:

  1. Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins in a singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
  2. Liv Morgan (c) vs. IYO SKY in a singles match for the Women’s World Championship
  3. CM Punk (c) vs. Cody Rhodes in a singles match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
  4. Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi in a Hell in a Cell match
  5. Penta (c) vs. the winner of the upcoming Gauntlet match for the Intercontinental Championship

More matches will be announced as we head closer to the event in Minnesota.
