Chelsea are now among the frontrunners to sign Alex Scott, following a major update on his future at AFC Bournemouth.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Enzo Fernandez‘s future at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have set out to sign a new central midfielder, and Scott is tried and tested in the Premier League, having made 80 appearances in the competition for Bournemouth.
Even during his time with Bristol City, the Englishman managed to catch Pep Guardiola‘s eye, with the former Manchester City manager describing him as “unbelievable” after his side’s 3-0 FA Cup triumph at Ashton Gate.
Since then, the 22-year-old has established himself as a key player for Bournemouth, averaging 12.2 defensive contributions per 90 in the Premier League last season, which was the highest number in Andoni Iraola’s squad.
The Guernsey-born midfielder remains under contract at the Vitality Stadium until the summer of 2028, but it has now been revealed he may be unwilling to extend his stay.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Scott has now rejected a new Bournemouth contract, amid strong interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
The three Premier League sides are the frontrunners in the race for the central midfielder, but his current employers aren’t planning to cash-in this summer, regardless of whether he pens a new deal.
A deal could also be very expensive, with reports suggesting the Cherries could hold out for a fee in excess of £80m.

Manuel Ugarte is also set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines, after sustaining a knee injury at the World Cup. Fortunately for Michael Carrick, United have already managed to bring in two midfielders, namely Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. |
Scott isn’t the only English midfielder in Chelsea’s sights, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton of interest, and new manager Xabi Alonso is said to be a big fan. The Blues are also set to sign England World Cup star Morgan Rogers, who has now passed his medical.
