In the closing moments of this week’s RAW, Roman Reigns was met by AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio. The Master of 619 said he wanted to run something by the World Heavyweight Champion before they walked away together.
We now know what the conversation was about. WWE announced that the OTC is set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 episode of RAW in Mexico City.
Thanks for the submission!
Mysterio announced a tournament featuring luchadores from RAW, SmackDown, and AAA, with the winner facing Reigns for the title next month. This is a massive opportunity for WWE to showcase some exciting talent from the lucha libre promotion.
Here are four stars from AAA who should be included in the tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ challenger on September 14.
#4. La Parka
La Parka should be part of the tournament. He is one of the most iconic names in lucha libre. A tournament featuring stars from the promotion would feel incomplete without him.
The veteran has also remained active in AAA. He recently competed in a qualifier for the vacant AAA Latin American Championship, showing that he is still part of the promotion’s upper card. Earlier this year, he also appeared in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble.
La Parka’s experience would add credibility to the tournament. Even if he does not win, he would be a strong representative of the lucha libre promotion on a big stage.
#3. Mr. Iguana
Mr. Iguana deserves a spot in the tournament to determine Roman Reigns‘ challenger. He has become one of the biggest success stories of the WWE-AAA partnership. Every time he appears, he gets a strong reaction from the crowd. That alone makes him a good fit for a tournament designed to showcase lucha libre.
He has also remained an important part of the programming. Meanwhile, WWE has continued to feature him in promotional material and merchandise, showing how highly the company views him.
Mr. Iguana is probably not going to win the tournament. However, he does not have to. His inclusion would help introduce more WWE fans to the Mexican promotion while giving the tournament one of its most entertaining competitors.
#2. Pagano
Pagano brings a very different style compared to most of the other competitors. His hardcore approach would add more variety to the field. He has also become one of the biggest heels of the promotion. After losing the AAA World Tag Team Championship, he turned on Psycho Clown and ended their successful partnership.
That gives him a good reason to enter the tournament. Every tournament needs heels as well as fan favorites. Moreover, Pagano could use this opportunity to prove that he no longer needs Psycho Clown and can succeed on his own.
#1. AAA star Psycho Clown
Psycho Clown remains one of the biggest homegrown stars of the Mexican promotion. He is arguably the promotion’s most recognizable babyface. A tournament in Mexico to determine Roman Reigns’ challenger would feel incomplete without him.
The star has entered a new rivalry in recent weeks. After he and Pagano lost the AAA World Tag Team Championship to the War Raiders, Pagano turned on his longtime partner. That betrayal has given Psycho Clown a major storyline heading into TriplemanÃa season.
Moreover, the tournament would give WWE the chance to showcase one of the lucha libre promotion’s biggest stars to a wider audience.
