England legend Stuart Pearce has slammed Liverpool ace Alexander Isak for his performance in the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield. The Sweden international found the back of the net for the Reds, but Pearce questioned his overall display.

Isak, who completed a record £125 million transfer to Liverpool last summer, has since struggled to replicate the form that made him a superstar at Newcastle United. The 26-year-old missed the majority of last season due to injuries.

After Isak regained his fitness towards the end of last season and featured for Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Liverpool fans are hoping he can return to his best this term.

However, they were left disappointed with his performance in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle last weekend. And although he scored for the Merseyside giants in the draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Pearce remained far from impressed.

The Nottingham Forest legend stated that Isak has been ‘well off the pace’ and accused him of bringing no energy to the game. Pearce also admitted that Isak tapping the ball into the back of the net was the only good thing he did in the last two games, calling the striker ‘flat’ on the pitch.

While commentating the game for talkSPORT, Pearce said:

“He’s claiming it’s a corner, but he’s been well off the pace today.

“He’s tapped the ball in the net, but that’s the one good thing that he’s done in the sum total of the couple of games that I’ve watched him play over this week.

“There’s been no energy from him. He looks flat.”

Isak scored just three goals in 13 Premier League games last season. He will be hoping he can be among the strikers vying for the golden boot this time around.

In the wake of his first goal of the Premier League season, Isak was asked whether he feels responsible to score more after the departure of Mohamed Salah.

The striker said he feels that way and admitted it is ultimately his job, while also expressing his delight after getting off the mark for the season.

Isak stated:

“Yeah, of course. That’s the job ultimately as a striker.

“And I’m obviously very happy to score the first one, and hopefully they just keep coming.”

Liverpool and Isak next face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Friday, September 4.
