UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) is exploring new opportunities for international tournament hosting, sports development and commercial partnerships following high-level discussions with senior sports officials from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
AVC President Ramon Suzara met with Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, and Aref Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, to discuss future cooperation and a strategic framework aimed at strengthening volleyball’s development and long-term sustainability across Asia.
The meeting focused on establishing a more integrated sports development ecosystem that connects grassroots participation, elite competition and commercial opportunities, while strengthening the institutional foundations needed to support the continued growth of the sport.
A central part of the discussions was the potential for Dubai and Abu Dhabi to host future AVC events and championships, creating opportunities to bring major continental volleyball competitions to the United Arab Emirates.
The officials explored potential partnerships that could support international tournament hosting, strengthen regional cooperation and contribute to the development of volleyball as a competitive and commercially sustainable sport.
Beyond hosting opportunities, the dialogue addressed the importance of modern sports governance and business frameworks in creating long-term value for sporting organizations, athletes and other stakeholders.
The discussions highlighted the need to balance commercial development with the cultural and social importance of sport, ensuring that growth initiatives continue to support athlete development, community participation and broader access to volleyball.
AVC President Suzara also emphasized a holistic approach to sports development, recognizing the importance of connecting grassroots programs with high-performance pathways and international competition opportunities.
The engagement forms part of the AVC’s broader efforts to strengthen relationships with government institutions, sports councils and other strategic partners across Asia.
By exploring cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the AVC aims to identify opportunities that can enhance its competition framework, support the development of volleyball and expand the sport’s reach to new audiences.
The meeting underscored the shared interest in developing sustainable partnerships that combine sporting excellence, institutional cooperation and long-term economic opportunities.
The AVC will continue exploring potential areas of collaboration with sports leaders in the UAE as part of its commitment to strengthening Asian volleyball and creating more opportunities for athletes, National Federations and volleyball communities across the continent.
