After Watching 56 Years Of NBA, Zach Lowe Declares Victor Wembanyama “Most Dominant Defensive Player” Ever

Victor Wembanyama has taken the league by storm in his third season in the NBA. The Spurs superstar is delivering MVP-level performances throughout the season. He is a frontrunner for the Defensive Player of the Year this season with a defensive rating of 101.6.

On Sunday’s episode of the “Bill Simmons Podcast,” renowned Sportswriter Zach Lowe praised the Spurs star’s defensive prowess.

“I don’t know that any statistical system can quantify what he is doing on every single possession defensively,” he said. “Everything is different when he is on the floor and I don’t even know how to measure that.”

Later, the sportswriter declared Victor Wembanyama as the most dominant player he has seen since the 1970s.

“He’s the most dominant defensive player I’ve ever seen already. I am not that old, but I’ve seen Garnett, Olajuwon, Kawhi… all the guys post 70s, and I don’t remember anything like this.”

Victor Wembanyama’s impact on the Spurs is quite a massive one. They are already a good team with Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox leading the backcourt, but whenever Wemby is playing, they become one of the most formidable teams on both ends of the floor.

The Spurs are 43-15 with Wemby on the floor and 10-5 without him. The two-time All-Star is averaging 24.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 3.0 blocks per game on 50.4% shooting.

Rick Carlisle heaps high praise on Victor Wembanyama after he leads the Spurs to a win over the Pacers

Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a 134-119 win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. The two-time All-Star scored 20 points, recorded eight rebounds, dished out six assists and made 5 blocks to secure the win.

Pacers coach was impressed with the Spurs star’s performance as he showered him with praise in the postgame conference.

“My feeling has been he’s been great the whole time, but he’s definitely getting better,” he said. “It’s clear that he works hard on his game. Last year, it was probably hard to evaluate because he missed the second half or whatever it was. But look, there’s never been a player like him in the history of the game that has the kind of impact at both ends. It gives them a very special advantage, and I think that’s pretty obvious.”

The Spurs (53-18) have played the Pacers twice this season and have a 2-0 record against them. They are in second place in the Western Conference standings and have clinched a playoff position.
