“Call your grandma!” – Conor McGregor addresses UFC comeback rumors with massive claim

Conor McGregor recently addressed speculation around his long-awaited UFC comeback and made a huge claim.

McGregor is easily the biggest superstar in mixed martial arts. The outspoken Irishman is widely known for his incredible striking skills and his one-of-a-kind gift of the gab. While McGregor has stayed away from fighting after his ill-fated outing against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, he has teased a return on several occasions.

McGregor was notably booked for a grand comeback against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024. However, a toe injury forced the Irishman to withdraw from the bout. Now, it appears McGregor is ready to step into the UFC octagon again.

In an Instagram post, McGregor confirmed rumors of his return and claimed he’s back as an active fighter. Hinting at a fight sometime later this year, he wrote:

Ariel Helwani discusses Conor McGregor potentially returning to action

Ariel Helwani believes Conor McGregor will return to the octagon on July 11 during the UFC’s annual International Fight Week thanks to a successful meeting between the promotion’s top brass and the Irishman.

In an episode of The Ariel Helwani Show (via @HappyPunch on X), the veteran journalist said:

“I continue to say the master of good timing, the beneficiary of the best timing in the history of the sport is Conor McGregor, because he is sitting there, being dramatic here… And I’m telling you, we told you about the meeting two weeks ago. I told you it went well… At this point, I think it would be safe to say that it would be a disastrous situation; something disastrous would have had to happen if he was not fighting on July 11th.”
