Leeds United have held talks to sign an “unstoppable” forward in the summer transfer window, with Premier League rivals Sunderland now fearing a hijack.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has already reached the ten-goal mark in the Premier League, but he hasn’t been quite as prolific over the past few weeks, finding the net just once in his last seven games.
Having failed to win any of their last four matches, Leeds find themselves in a precarious position, currently sitting just three points above the relegation zone, after only bringing in attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton during the January window.
That is despite the fact Mick Brown suggested the Whites remained keen on signing a new centre-forward, saying: “Leeds will still want to sign a new striker.
“It’s easy to get caught up in recent results, and Calvert-Lewin has been very impressive, but that doesn’t take away from all of the games when he wasn’t performing.”
“He’s going through a good spell of form and for his sake I hope he can keep that up, but that doesn’t mean Leeds should be prepared to put their faith in him.”
Having missed out on the signing of a new striker in the winter, Leeds are now stepping up their pursuit of AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez, having recently launched initial talks, according to journalist Sebastien Vidal on X.
Sunderland are now fearing a hijack, having already held discussions about a deal for Gimenez earlier this season, and they are still monitoring the situation, ahead of a possible summer transfer swoop.
The 24-year-old is currently on the treatment table due to an ankle injury, but he enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at AC Milan, chipping in with five goals and two assists in 14 games last season.

The centre-forward was prolific throughout his time in the Netherlands, amassing 65 goals and 14 assists in 105 appearances for Feyenoord, during which time he was lauded as “unstoppable” by scout Jacek Kulig.

He’s enjoyed an excellent season.
Since then, the £77k-a-week striker has since gone on to have a difficult season, failing to score in the Serie A prior to being ruled out at the end of October, but his previous exploits suggest he could still be an excellent addition to Daniel Farke‘s squad.
Bringing in a new striker this summer could be a savvy move, given that Lukas Nmecha has only scored one goal from open play in 2026, and Calvert-Lewin’s purple patch appears to have come to an end.
However, Leeds should continue to run the rule over Gimenez, given that it is unclear how the Mexican’s long-term ankle injury will impact him going forward, having missed the last 19 Serie A games.
