NFL fans react as Ravens re-sign Tyler Huntley for $11,000,000 amid free agency

The Baltimore Ravens re-signed Tyler Huntley on a two-year, $11 million deal on Sunday. The veteran quarterback will likely serve as Lamar Jackson’s backup in the next two seasons.

Huntley, who was signed as the Ravens’ third-stringer in August, started two games when Jackson was recovering from a hamstring injury.

NFL fans reacted to the news on X.

“Let’s be honest, given Lamar’s track record in December, they didn’t just sign a backup. They just signed their actual starting quarterback for the playoffs, and they really should have aimed higher than Huntley,” a fan wrote.

Let’s be honest, given Lamar’s track record in December, they didn’t just sign a backup. They just signed their actual starting quarterback for the playoffs, and they really should have aimed higher than Huntley.

“In short: Baltimore is sticking with a backup who already knows the system—and whose friendship with Jackson helps maintain stability in the quarterback room,” another fan wrote.

“Giving out two-year contracts just because a guy is best friends with your starter is a joke. Everyone praises him, but people conveniently forget he literally fumbled the season away on the goal line against the Bengals,” one fan tweeted.

“Re-signing Huntley to a 2-year, $11M deal just to hang out with his best friend is the ultimate friendship goal,” a fan said.

“Great move by the Ravens. Huntley is one of the best backup QBs in the league,” one fan commented.

Huntley appeared in five games last season, going 2-0 in two starts. His career-best campaign was with Baltimore in 2021 when he surpassed 1,000+ passing yards in four starts.

Ravens expected to part ways with quarterback after Tyler Huntley’s return

Tyler Huntley‘s return to Baltimore as Lamar Jackson’s backup could signal the end of Cooper Rush’s tenure with the franchise. Rush was the Ravens’ QB2 last season, but after his 0-2 record, Huntley was promoted to the starting role in Jackson’s absence.

Rush completed 25 of 39 passes for 251 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions in two starts.
