Atlanta Falcons defensive end James Pearce Jr., the former boyfriend of WNBA star Rickea Jackson, will no longer face an aggravated battery on law enforcement charge.

According to sports analyst Andy Slater on Thursday, the arrest charge of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer was dropped after prosecutors determined insufficient evidence.

“SLATER SCOOP: Atlanta Falcons James Pearce Jr. will no longer face a charge of aggravated battery on law enforcement,” Slater wrote. “Sources tell me that prosecutors decided there wasn’t enough evidence on body-cam to charge him with that felony which could have put him in prison for five years.”

However, despite the dropping of the aggravated battery charge, Pearce is still facing three felonies, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding police and resisting an officer with violence to his or her person. The fourth arrest charge, aggravated stalking, was changed to a misdemeanor. He also faces nine traffic citations.

Several fans on X reacted to the dropping of one of Pearce’s charges.

“NGL people get killed for breathing near officers wrong. She needs to get a gun ASAP ’cause if he got away with hitting actual law enforcement with his car then I have no faith for that restraining order,” a fan tweeted.

@AndySlater @FalcoholicKevin Like we’ve said… dude will be playing. That was the worst charge that would have been the nail in his playing coffin. Now he’ll plea down to all the other charges, get probation and suspended for 6-8 games.

On Feb. 7, Pearce allegedly stalked and repeatedly collided with Jackson‘s car as she attempted to reach a police station in Doral, Florida. After a confrontation with authorities, Pearce fled the scene before crashing. He reportedly resisted arrest while fleeing on foot.

The Falcons DE spent a night in jail and was released after posting a $20,500 bond.

Rickea Jackson files protective order against James Pearce Jr.

LA Sparks star Rickea Jackson filed a petition for protection against Atlanta Falcons DE James Pearce Jr. in Miami-Dade County last month. According to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein and Marc Raimondi on Wednesday, Jackson filed the injunction for a protective order in the days following the Feb. 7 incident.

According to the court filing obtained by ESPN, Jackson said that Pearce “verbally and physically abused me on more than one occasion,” in addition to threats of killing, harming and injuring her. The 6-foot-2 WNBA star said that she was “in fear of my life.”

The court granted Jackson’s protection request, with the permanent injunction hearing scheduled for April 21. The court ordered Pearce not to have contact with the Sparks forward or come within 500 feet of her home or place of employment or 100 feet from her vehicle.
