A brief recap of the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 1 premiere

Episodes 1 and 2 of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord follow the journey of Darth Maul as he seeks to reconstruct his crime empire post the collapse of the Republic. It all starts when Maul conducts a heist at a local bank to create a rift between two crime lords, Nico Deemis and Looti Vario, resulting in the death of Deemis and the incarceration of Vario.

Along comes the last remaining Padawan, Devon Izara, who is hidden away from view, but gets kidnapped when she steals some food items. Darth Maul launches an attack on the police station to free Vario. He spares him as payment for information regarding the crime lord.

He also captures Devon Izara as he senses her presence using the force. Episode 2 sees Darth Maul using the knowledge provided by Vario to attack the Pyke Syndicate, and he tries to influence Devon Izara to be his apprentice.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 1 episodes 3 & 4 will likely include escalations in terms of both the protagonist’s criminal agenda and the broader wars initiated in the premiere. After attacking rival crime organizations and creating tension with the Pykes, Maul is expected to become more aggressive in controlling Janix and developing his empire.

Moreover, as police forces are increasing pressure on Maul, Episodes 3 and 4 can introduce a step towards revealing the structure of Maul’s crime network. It is also reasonable to assume that Izara’s subplot will gain momentum. As a result of his manipulations, Maul will try to get a disciple in Izara, who will have to choose between Sith principles and those of Jediism.

Apart from that, the involvement of the Empire and its agents, called Inquisitors, suggests that these episodes might be devoted to introducing additional antagonists, whose activities might affect Maul’s ambitions. Therefore, the next episode will continue addressing the major theme of power.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord season 1 episodes 3 & 4 will premiere on April 13, 2026.
