Aston Villa are now pushing ahead with their move to sign a midfield star for Unai Emery this summer, launching an opening offer for the £17m star.
Aston Villa submit offer for midfielder
The Villans have been boosted by Champions League qualification, but that doesn’t mean blockbuster deals are on the horizon. They’ve still got plenty of SCR concerns to address and could still have little choice but to sell Morgan Rogers at the right price as a result.
The sale of the midfielder would come as a major blow for Emery, but it’s worth noting just how much Jack Grealish’s big-money sale helped to transform Aston Villa many moons ago. Now, Rogers’ potential exit amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City could do the same.

His sale would likely provide a much-needed budget increase for Aston Villa to welcome some fresh faces. To say that’s been a long time coming would be an understatement.
To that end, the Midlands club are already turning their attention towards a midfield star. According to La Voz de Almeria in Spain, via Sport Witness, Aston Villa submitted an offer to sign Dion Lopy worth around €17m (£15m), only to see that rejected by Almeria with the Spanish club holding out for €20m (£17m) instead.
Better than Rowe: Aston Villa could see £26m bid accepted to sign England star
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in a deal to sign a star who is even better than Jonathan Rowe.
Whether the Villans decide to bridge that gap in valuation remains to be seen, but Lopy is certainly one to watch ahead of the summer transfer window.
Emery wants £17m Lopy
If recent reports are anything to go by, then Aston Villa will need an extra £2m to match Almeria’s asking price. That is very much do-able, even for a side with their SCR concerns.
What should help push club chiefs to bridge that gap is Emery’s verdict. The Spaniard is reportedly a fan of Lopy and wants to welcome the defensive midfielder to Villa Park in the coming months.

It’s easy to see why Emery is keen to sign Lopy. The numbers suggest that he would provide tough competition for Amadou Onana and could even replace the former Everton man next to Youri Tielemans.
His numbers out of possession particularly stand out and if Aston Villa are to balance Champions League and domestic football next season, a player like Lopy could prove to be key.
