WWE Confirms 8-Man Tournament Bracket To Decide Roman Reigns’ Next Opponent

The road to WWE’s monumental return to Mexico City is taking shape with Roman Reigns headlining it. Following a backstage interaction between the World Heavyweight Champion and AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio, WWE has announced a tournament for the former’s next opponent. They have officially revealed the eight-man tournament bracket, showing who’s facing whom for the chance to become Reigns’ opponent at Arena CDMX.

The cross-promotional tournament features luchadores from WWE and AAA. The matches will begin with the upcoming episode of RAW and span two weeks for the first-round matches. The two semifinals will likely take place the following week, followed by the final. The tournament will likely wrap up this month, with the winner confronting Roman Reigns on an episode of RAW on September 14.

The star-studded line-up of competitors includes:

Penta vs. Laredo Kid (on the August 8 edition of RAW)

Psycho Clown vs. La Parka (on the August 15 edition of AAA)

Dragon Lee vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. (on the August 17 edition of RAW)

Rey Fenix vs. El Fiscal (on the August 17 edition of RAW)

The tournament will shift from RAW to AAA, then back to RAW, in their first-round matches. The rest of the next round matches’ venues have not been announced but will likely again be on RAW and AAA. As of this writing, Penta stands out as an early favorite to win the tournament, with his final match being against his brother, Rey Fenix.

Even Rey Fenix wants Penta to challenge Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has just finished facing his former SHIELD brother. Now, he could face another brother, though not one related to him. The consensus is for Penta vs. Reigns on the September 14 edition of RAW, live from Mexico City, whereas the former’s brother, Rey Fenix, wants it to happen at Worlds Collide.

The AAA World Cruiserweight Champion recently took to his Instagram story to pitch Penta as Roman’s opponent, sharing a fan-made graphic. It was a dream line-up for the upcoming AAA x WWE Worlds Collide event to be held live from the Allstate Arena on September 26, 2026. The fan-made graphic features the World Heavyweight Champion facing off against Penta, while Fenix takes on WWE Undisputed Champion CM Punk.
