Alan Pardew has sent a warning to Liverpool amidst speculation about Arne Slot. He suggested that Manchester United could be interested in Xabi Alonso if the Reds don’t appoint him.
There has been a lot of speculation about Slot’s future at Anfield after an underwhelming season. They won the Premier League last season, but are set to go trophyless this season. They are fourth in the league standings, eight points above sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew shared his thoughts on the Liverpool manager’s future, saying (h/t talkSPORT):
“If you are going to look at a financial situation, Alonso isn’t going to cost you a transfer fee. Taking all of his staff would all be involved with a new contract, with a new club. There’s a real window of opportunity.”
“I think they’re going to have to make a big call in the summer. Slot has had a strange season. He could still end up in the Champions League. So is that enough with the injuries and the problems that he’s had? So that’s an interesting one, but if he isn’t going to Liverpool, I think Man United should be interested,” he added.
Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim in January and appointed Michael Carrick as their interim manager until the end of the season.
Pundit claims Liverpool should not sack Arne Slot this summer
Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes the Reds should stick with Arne Slot. He said that after winning the Premier League, the Dutchman should have some credit in the bank. Moreover, he highlighted Liverpool’s injuries and the form of Mohamed Salah and said:
“I said last week that I think he should have some credit in the bank for winning the league last season. You’ve lost your star man in Isak. Now you’ve lost the other star man in Ekitike. Mo Salah’s forms dipped. The defence has not been good enough. You’ve lost a couple of players. And I know everyone’s sort of, I don’t want to say in panic mode, but just give the team a little bit of time to settle.”
Slot has managed 109 games at Liverpool, winning 66, losing 27, and drawing 16. He is under contract at Anfield until 2027.
Meanwhile, the Merseysiders will next face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, May 3. The Red Devils are third, three points above their arch-rivals.
