Aston Villa in advanced talks to sign Chelsea’s Garnacho

Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on an initial loan deal that could include an obligation to buy.

The 21-year-old Argentina international was made available for transfer last month, with Chelsea initially valuing him at £43 million. While the Blues remain open to a permanent sale, discussions have centred on a deal that would see Garnacho join Villa on loan before a permanent move is triggered under agreed conditions.

Talks between the clubs have intensified following Chelsea’s club-record £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Villa that is set to complete in the coming days.

Garnacho and striker Nicolas Jackson, who is valued at £65 million, were both discussed as part of separate negotiations that could see the pair move to Villa Park.

If the deal is completed, Garnacho would become Villa’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Kaba Cisse.

Villa have also raised close to £200 million through player sales during the window, with Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin all departing.

Chelsea have been willing to listen to offers for Garnacho despite signing him from Manchester United for £40 million only last September. United are entitled to 10% of any future transfer fee.

The winger has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge, scoring just once in the Premier League, while the arrivals of Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda have increased Chelsea’s desire to trim their squad ahead of the new season.
