TIANJIN, China — Asian Volleyball Confederation President Ramon Suzara met with volleyball legend Lang Ping in Tianjin, with discussions centered on strengthening player development, raising coaching standards and advancing the continued growth of volleyball across Asia.
The meeting took place during the AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship Tianjin 2026, bringing together two prominent figures in Asian volleyball at one of the continent’s premier competitions.
Suzara and Lang exchanged perspectives on the future of the sport, particularly on creating stronger pathways for athletes and coaches and drawing on the experience of accomplished volleyball leaders to help raise standards across the region.
Known throughout the volleyball world as the “Iron Hammer,” Lang is one of the sport’s most celebrated figures and the first person in volleyball history to win Olympic gold both as a player and as a coach.
The meeting in Tianjin also carried special significance for Lang, who was born in the city in 1960 before beginning a career that would take her to the highest levels of international volleyball. She joined China’s national team in 1978 and went on to become one of the defining players of her generation.
Her success continued in coaching, where she built an equally distinguished career and further established herself as one of the most influential figures in the sport.
Suzara highlighted the value of engaging accomplished volleyball leaders such as Lang as AVC continues to strengthen development throughout its National Federations.
“Lang Ping represents excellence in every sense of the word. Her achievements as an athlete and a coach, and the knowledge and experience she has gained throughout her remarkable career, are an inspiration to the entire volleyball community,” Suzara said.
