Club likely to accept new Celtic bid for player who wants to join the Hoops

Celtic have changed the mood around their summer business by spending heavily on a new attack.

Kasper Hogh arrived from Bodo/Glimt for a club record £11 million, while Camilo Duran joined from Qarabağ in another significant deal.

Those moves have given Martin O’Neill two new central options, but Celtic still need options out wide.

Daizen Maeda’s £10 million move to Ipswich removed pace, pressing and goals from the left. Nicolas Kuhn’s departure for Como a year earlier had already left the Hoops searching for a right-winger capable of attacking defenders directly.

Haissem Hassan fits that vacancy more closely than Celtic’s two new forwards.

The 24-year-old is left-footed but prefers starting from the right, allowing him to drive inside or use his acceleration to reach the byline.

Hassan made his professional debut for Chateauroux at 16 before Villarreal brought him to Spain in 2020. He developed with their reserve side and through loans at Mirandes and Sporting Gijon, but made only two La Liga appearances for Villarreal’s team.

Real Oviedo offered him a permanent home in 2024.

Hassan contributed four goals and three assists across 43 league and promotion play-off appearances as Oviedo returned to Spain’s top flight after 24 years away.

Last season proved far more difficult.

Oviedo were relegated and Hassan failed to score in 37 La Liga outings, although he registered three assists. Those figures cannot be ignored, especially if Celtic are about to make him one of their most expensive signings.

However, they do not tell the entire story.

Hassan played for a struggling side and remained willing to receive possession, carry the ball forward and confront defenders. He also raised his profile after impressing for Egypt during their run at the 2026 World Cup.

That interest has turned into serious attempts to bring him to Glasgow.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph says Celtic have submitted an offer worth around £9 million to Real Oviedo.

The Spanish club are expected to accept the proposal, with only minor details still requiring agreement. Joseph adds that Hassan wants the move and personal terms should not become a problem once the clubs complete their negotiations.

That represents a major breakthrough after weeks of talks and competing reports about the winger’s future.

Hassan has only one year remaining on his Oviedo contract, but his reported £10 million release clause has allowed the Spanish side to maintain a strong asking price.

Celtic are now close to meeting it, but the proposed fee carries risk because Hassan’s recent scoring record is very modest to say the least.

That said, O’Neill would still be adding a quick, technical winger who can stretch packed Premiership defences, supply Hogh and Duran, and offer a different outlet.

If the remaining details are indeed sorted, Celtic’s expensive attacking rebuild will have its next piece.
