Final eight set for AVC Men’s Continental quarterfinals in Fukuoka

FUKUOKA, Japan — The race for the Asian title and a coveted place at the LA 2028 Olympic Games enters its decisive knockout stage as eight teams prepare for the quarterfinals of the AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship Fukuoka 2026.

Host Japan, Iran and Thailand advanced as pool winners, while Korea, China, Australia, Chinese Taipei and India completed the final eight following the preliminary phase.

The quarterfinals begin Thursday with Thailand facing Australia at 3:30 p.m. local time (GMT+9). Thailand topped Pool C to advance to the knockout stage, while Australia progressed from Pool A.

Later Thursday, Korea take on China at 7:30 p.m. for another place in the semifinals. Korea advanced from Pool C, while China moved through from Pool B.

The remaining two quarterfinals will be played Friday. Iran face Chinese Taipei at 3:30 p.m., before host Japan meet India at 7:30 p.m. to complete the quarterfinal round.

The final-phase bracket has also established each team’s pathway toward the championship match. The winner of Korea-China will face the winner of Japan-India in the semifinals, while the winner of Thailand-Australia will meet the winner of Iran-Chinese Taipei.

Both semifinals are scheduled for Sept. 12, setting the stage for the final day of competition on Sept. 13, when the championship and bronze-medal matches will be contested.

The stakes extend well beyond the continental crown. The Fukuoka 2026 champions will secure direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three finishers will qualify for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

That places even greater importance on the quarterfinals. The four winners will move into the medal round, putting them within one victory of securing a World Championship berth and two victories of claiming the Asian title and the direct Olympic qualification place.

With the preliminary phase now behind them, there is no margin for error for the eight remaining teams as the battle for continental supremacy reaches its most decisive stage in Fukuoka.

All quarterfinal matches will be available live on VBTV.
