Erling Haaland has revealed that he is supporting England for the rest of the FIFA World Cup. He admitted that he will be keeping tabs on all teams, as his club teammates are playing for other sides.
Speaking to the media after the FIFA World Cup exit, Haaland said that he has an England kit and it is the country he was born in. He added that the Three Lions kit was one of his firsts, even before he got a Norwegian one and said:
Thanks for the submission!
“Yeah, why not? I have a few City lads in England (James Trafford, Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly and John Stones), in France (Rayan Cherki), and in Spain (Rodri), so of course I want England to do well. I’ve been supporting them (for a long time). I think I got an England jersey before I got a Norway jersey when I was young. Of course I want people to do well because it’s a nice country and it’s a nice shirt.” (via Tribal Football)
Haaland added that their performances at the FIFA World Cup were a positive step for the sport’s future in their country. He added that there was a lot of pressure on the players despite them trying their best to handle it and said:
“It’s kind of difficult to take in, this kind of a show, or a rollercoaster we’ve been in now for the last six weeks because we’ve had so much, and it’s been so much pressure, so much feeling. I think we’re there now (at the top level). I think this changes Norway. I think it’s about maintaining this because we’ve shown that it’s possible.”
Erling Haaland and Norway were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup by England, with Jude Bellingham scoring a brace after Andreas Schjelderup gave the Vikings the lead.
Erling Haaland on facing England at the FIFA World Cup
Erling Haaland was proud of Norway’s performance against England in the FIFA World Cup. He said that they were on top of their game, and were not upset about the exit, as they did well in the tournament and said:
“We’ve shown that possible to be one of the biggest football nations in the world. We gave England a good fight. In the end, I’m just proud. I’ve been so proud every single day here now since we qualified, and since being in the US.”
Erling Haaland finished his first-ever FIFA World Cup with seven goals, one behind current leaders Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
