John Cena has admitted that he doesn’t miss the physicality of professional wrestling. However, the former multi-time WWE World Champion misses the fans and their energy.
Cena closed out his illustrious career in December 2025 after losing to Gunther in his final match. The 17-time WWE World Champion tapped out to The Ring General. He has made televised appearances since his retirement, hosting WrestleMania 42.
Thanks for the submission!
Speaking on The Tonight Show, Cena stated that he had to walk away from professional wrestling because he couldn’t take bodyslams anymore, but revealed that he missed the WWE Universe.
“No. What I miss is the audience. The energy that I feel when you come through the curtain. I had to walk away because I can’t get bodyslammed anymore,” John Cena said in reply to Jimmy Fallon asking him if he missed wrestling.

John Cena revealed who could bring him out of retirement
John Cena has revealed that the only person who could convince him to end his retirement is Elon Musk. However, the 17-time WWE World Champion is convinced he would stay retired until Musk decides to give up a large portion of his fortune.
Speaking in a Q&A, Cena said the following when asked if he would consider stepping into the ring again:
“No. What? No. I cannot speak in absolutes because again, I don’t control that. But I think the only person that can convince me to come back, given the recent events, would be Mr. Elon Musk, and he’d have to give up a whole lot of his fortune to do so. So, until he does that, I think I’m going to stay retired.”
John Cena has enjoyed an illustrious professional wrestling career, winning the WWE World Championship 17 times and breaking Ric Flair’s record in his final year as a professional wrestler.
At WrestleMania 41, Cena defeated Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship after shockingly turning heel in early 2025. He dropped the title back to Rhodes at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event.
