NHL fans react to devastating Connor Bedard injury update

Connor Bedard suffered a massive setback during offseason training. On July 3rd, Blackhawks insider Ryan McGregor revealed that Bedard left practice after falling awkwardly on his shoulder. Later, footage emerged in which the 20-year-old was seen leaving practice in pain.

While the extent of Bedard’s injury was unknown, the Chicago Blackhawks have finally provided an update. On X, the Blackhawks mentioned that Bedard underwent surgery this morning to repair his shoulder. The team added that they expect Bedard to make a full recovery in an approximate timeline of four months.

As soon as the Blackhawks provided an update on Connor Bedard’s injury via X, several fans reacted to the same. One user expressed sadness by writing that another season has been screwed due to Bedard’s injury.

Let us take a look at more reactions:

“This should affect his contract worth, both shoulders have had surgery and he’s not even old enough to drink a beer,” a user wrote.

“Kid can’t catch a break 😭 rest up Bedsy :(,” one user wrote.

“Good thing Kyle Davidson went and got some forward help in the offseason….oh wait…..we’re going to suck again!,” a fan wrote.

“But we’re still extending his contract, right?,” one fan wrote.

“Well by the time he gets back, the Blackhawks will have already been eliminated from the playoffs,” a fan noted.

Losing Connor Bedard will indeed be a big blow for the Chicago Blackhawks. Last season, Bedard was one of the Blackhawks’ most impressive players as he scored 30 goals and recorded 45 assists in 69 games. Bedard earned 75 points for his exploits on the rink.

NHL Insider reveals Connor Bedard is eyeing a $17 million contract with the Blackhawks

Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks entered discussions over an extension last month. Back then, reports suggested that Bedard was seeking a significant rise in pay to stay with the Blackhawks. Recent reports have provided more clarity on the amount Bedard is seeking.

In an episode of DFO Rundown Insider Edition, NHL Insider Irfaan Gaffar revealed that Bedard is eyeing a contract with a $17 million AAV. According to Gaffar, Bedard wants to make the money Kirill Kaprizov is earning at the Minnesota Wild.

“Connor Bedard is in for a payday. He saw Bowen Byram get a payday. I think that Connor Bedard is looking at Kirill Kaprizov money… I think that is a situation and that is a number that he’s looking at, and I do strongly believe that he thinks he deserves it. I’m not entirely sure the Chicago Blackhawks as an organization are close to that number when discussing Connor Bedard right now,” Gaffard said.

According to reports, Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson started talks in the $10 million to $12 million range. It will be worth observing if Bedard’s injury affects his contract negotiations.
