Scottie Scheffler aims to follow Rory McIlroy’s footsteps as he reveals his agenda for 2026

Scottie Scheffler is aiming to follow in Rory McIlroy’s footsteps in 2026. The star golfer said he wanted to win the U.S. Open, the only major left on his impressive resume.

Scheffler is a four-time major champion and has won two Masters, one Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. However, he is still looking to win his national open, which would put him in the exclusive group of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy as a Grand Slam winner.

On Wednesday, April 29, during the pre-event press conference of the Cadillac Championship, Scottie Scheffler spoke about his plans for the upcoming months.

“Yeah, I would love to be able to win the US Open,” he said. “It’s a tournament that I love. I love my country, I would love to be able to win my National Open. And I’ve had some success at that tournament before and I think it suits my style of game. I’m excited to go to Shinnecock this year and hopefully get it done.”

Last year, Rory McIlroy became the latest player to complete the career grand slam after beating Justin Rose in a playoff finish. This was also his first major win in more than ten years, but he didn’t wait that long for another as he successfully defended his title at Augusta earlier this month.

The world No. 1 golfer has been quite consistent in his recent appearances at the U.S. Open and has had some great finishes. The star golfer has missed just two cuts in eight starts, and both of them came in his first three starts. However, since 2020, he has recorded four top-ten finishes, including a T2 finish in 2022.

The U.S. Open 2026 is scheduled to take place from June 18 to 21 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in the Town of Southampton on Long Island, New York.
