Former NXT general manager Ava, real name Simone Garcia Johnson, has taken us behind the scenes into WWE’s creative vault and dropped a bombshell. Johnson is the daughter of WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who left the company this past January, choosing not to renew her contract.
During a recent interview on The Downside podcast, Johnson revealed the existence of a private website where NXT talent upload their untelevised promos and practice matches. While navigating the site, Ava saw a highly controversial, politically charged promo. Something she says will never see the light of day.
Thanks for the submission!
“We have this internal website where you can upload your promos and matches. One day, I was on there, and this one girl was cutting a promo. Her opponent has (Donald) Trump supporting allegations; that’s important to remember. The girl cutting the promo had something to do with running. The girl who is the opponent was talking sh*t and being like, ‘You’re running from me.’ The girl cuts a promo and goes, ‘Why don’t you ask your little friend Trump because the last person who said I ran got bo***d.’
“That promo will never see the light of day, and I’m so mad. I watched that with my partner and friend, and we literally closed the computer and walked away. Shakespeare himself could not put that promo together. It was literally three days after the war in Iran started. That’s my favorite wrestling promo,” Ava said.
According to her, the promo involved a political subtext between two female talents, one of whom had “Trump-supporting allegations.” The promo, however, took a turn when geopolitical references were added to target the opponent. Considering the promo took place soon after the military conflict in Iran began, it was a subject way too hot to handle. While the promo will never be heard, according to Ava, it is her favorite one.
Ava comments on her leaving WWE
On the same podcast, former NXT general manager Ava said that there wasn’t one particular reason she left; she had a lot of things on her mind and chose to leave WWE. She added that she was very grateful for her time in WWE and wouldn’t change anything about it.
She got to live her dream, but also new things need to be experienced. As she doesn’t regret anything from her stint in WWE, leaving the company is also not one of them. The 24-year-old says she’s now “really happy.”
