Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery cannot be praised enough for the job that he has done at the club after lifting the Europa League trophy last month.
It was the club’s first major trophy in 30 years and their first European trophy since 1982, which makes him Villa’s most successful manager for thousands of supporters around the age of 30 or younger.
One of his best attributes as a manager is his development of players, as evidenced by Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers’ progress under him at Villa Park.
Buendia delivered 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions for the Villans in the 2025/26 campaign, having never hit double figures for goals or assists in his first three years at the club.
Rogers, meanwhile, joined Villa after scoring two goals in 26 Championship games for Middlesbrough, and he has racked up 28 goals and 24 assists in the last two seasons under Emery’s management.
Aston Villa eyeing deal for relegated forward
The two attacking midfielders, who both scored against Freiburg in the Europa League final last month, are evidence of the Spaniard’s impressive coaching of players.
Now, the Villans are reportedly looking at a player who could follow in Buendia and Rogers’ footsteps to become a star under the former Arsenal and Villarreal head coach.
According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are one of a number of clubs eyeing up a deal to sign West Ham United forward Crysencio Summerville in the summer transfer window.
The report claims that a bid of £35m could be accepted by the Hammers, following their relegation from the Premier League, after they paid £25m to sign him from Leeds in 2024.
It adds that Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli are prepared to pay that £35m asking price, but it remains to be seen whether or not Villa are willing to offer that much for the Netherlands international.
TEAMtalk reveals that Tottenham Hotspur and Villa are the two domestic sides interested in a deal for the left-sided attacker, but the two Italian teams are ahead of them in the race at this point in time.
Why Crysencio Summerville can be Aston Villa’s new Morgan Rogers
As aforementioned, Emery has hit the jackpot at Villa with Buendia and Rogers by helping them to fulfill their potential, taking them both from inconsistent performers at the top end of the pitch to delivering goals and assists on a regular basis.
Summerville is a player who could greatly benefit from working under the Spanish tactician because he has unearthed potential in the Premier League that Emery could help to unlock.
The Netherlands international produced five goals and two assists in the Premier League for the Hammers this season, which was a respectable return, but his previous form in the Championship for Leeds suggests that there is far more to come from him.

Whilst it was at a lower level, Summerville showed that he could offer goals and creativity at an impressive rate when playing in an attack-minded team that suited his style of play when he was in the second tier under Daniel Farke.
The Dutch star, who was described as “unstoppable” by Statman Dave, almost hit double figures for both goals and assists, much like Rogers has in the past two seasons for Villa.
In fact, his xA and number of ‘big chances’ created suggests that poor finishing from his teammates cost him double figures for assists, rather than a lack of creativity on his part.
However, like Rogers and Buendia before they worked with Emery, Summerville has yet to prove himself on a consistent basis in the Premier League, with no more than five goals and two assists in a single season in the top-flight.
The next step for the 24-year-old forward is to start to replicate his Championship form in the Premier League, scoring goals and creating high-quality chances week-in-week-out as an ‘unpredictable’ and exciting forward.
That is why joining Aston Villa could be the best next step for his career, because he would be working under a manager who has proven that he can get the best out of players in his position.
However, it is first down to the Villans to splash the £35m in cash that is needed to see a bid accepted by the Hammers so that they can beat Napoli and Milan to his services, so that they can land Emery his next version of Rogers.
Better than Rowe: Aston Villa could see £26m bid accepted to sign England star
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in a deal to sign a star who is even better than Jonathan Rowe.
