On June 10th, Hockey 24/7 reported an interesting detail about Adam Fox’s future. According to the media outlet, the San Jose Sharks and the New York Rangers were in discussions about a potential trade involving Fox and a second-overall pick, plus more.
While the report quickly went viral on social media, NHL Inider Jonny Lazarus quickly shut it down. On X, Lazarus quote-tweeted Hockey 24/7’s tweet and wrote that he saw the report gaining traction, which prompted him to confirm whether it was true.
“I saw this had some traction, so I checked with a source to confirm it had no merit. I am confirming that this is false.”

While the New York Rangers did not make the Stanley Cup playoffs this year, Adam Fox had a decent season individually. In total, Fox featured in 55 games for New York. The well-known and respected defenseman scored nine goals with 44 assists and 53 points.
The reason why Hockey 24/7’s report quickly gained traction is that Fox has been a part of the New York Rangers since the beginning of his career. During his time with the Rangers, Fox has grown to become one of the best defensemen in the league.

Adam Fox spent the beginning of 2026 away from hockey as he dealt with an injury. However, on February 26, 2026, Fox returned to action in a loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. After the game, Fox was asked about his future with the Rangers.
However, the 28-year-old seemed to be in no mood to answer the question. He said:
“I mean, I’m just trying to focus on this year right now and play each game. That’s really all I can do right now, could control — is I was just trying to work to get back and help the team finish strong. So I think that’s where my head’s at. … I think that’s a conversation when we’re done playing games.”
Adam Fox is on a 7-year, $66,500,000 contract with the New York Rangers. His contract with the team runs out at the end of the 2028-29 season.
